Warkentin
arrives to the University of Manitoba after working as the Director
of Athletics of Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) from 2001-2007.
In addition, he held the dual role of men's basketball head coach
at CMU. At the end of the 2006-07 season, he was named basketball
coach of the year by the Association of Christian College Athletics
(ACCA) by guiding the team to a third place finish at the ACCA national
tournament in Oklahoma in early March and capturing the Central
Plains Athletic Conference (CPAC) championship, defeating the Red
River College Rebels 59-57 at the end of March.
The
Winnipeg native graduated from University of Manitoba in the Faculty
of Physical Education and Recreation Studies in 1992 and Faculty
of Arts in 1990.
Prior to CMU, he was the assistant coach of the University of Waterloo
Men's Basketball from 1994-2001. Warkentin also worked as an Executive
Director of two Provincial Sport Organizations in Manitoba and Faculty
Development Officer at the University of Waterloo.
As
a fully certified NCCP Level 3 basketball coach, Warkentin has also
been very involved in coaching for 18 years including club basketball
and in Provincial Team programs in both Ontario and Manitoba.
