Libraries' Health and Safety Committee
Terms of Reference

To promote human health and safety at the University of Manitoba Libraries by:

  1. Developing, in consultation with the Administrative Group, policies and procedures for both employee and user health and safety on libraries premises;
  2. Receiving and investigating workplace health and safety complaints;
  3. Documenting libraries health and safety policies and procedures;
  4. Providing training and education programs in workplace health and safety;
  5. Arranging the acquisition and storage of human health and safety supplies where necessary;
  6. Identifying policy issues for referral to the administrative group;
  7. Liaising and coordinating activities with the disaster planning group;
  8. Serving as members of the disaster action team if necessary;
  9. Assisting with the implementation of the workplace hazardous materials inventory system (WHMIS) in the libraries.

Committee Membership Composition

Management members are appointed by the Director or are on the committee by virtue of their position. Worker members are elected annually on a rotating basis and represent Library units as follows:
