Biography of Shirley Grosser

Shirley Grosser received a B.A. from United College in 1958. She obtained her Bachelor of Social Work(1962) & an M.S.W. (1966) from the University of Manitoba. She was employed by the YMHA from 1959-1969. In 1969 Grosser joined the School of Social Work at the University of Manitoba as a lecturer. She became an assistant professor in 1972 and an associate professor in 1976. Upon her retirement she was named a Senior Scholar.

Grosser developed several courses during her academic career. They include the Mind/Body Connection, Symbolic Interaction and Psychodrama and several AIDS related courses. She was active in many professional and community organizations including Chair of the Board of Klinic Inc. 1983-1986, The Canadian Association of Gerontology 1971-1993, the Manitoba Action Committee on the Status of Women, 1981-1993 and several AIDS organizations.
