Below are three “Research Community Day” sessions that may be of interest to the CAPDU and ACMLA membership.
- Literacy and Numeracy - Gateways to Innovation:
Wednesday June 2, 9:00 a.m. to 12:30, 308 Tier Building.
The International Adult Literacy Survey (IALS) is the first multi-country and multi-language
assessment of adult literacy. Yvan Clermont, Statistics Canada, the International Coordinator
of the Adult Literacy and Lifeskills Survey (ALL), will give an overview of the frameworks
for assessing literacy and life skills for adults; talk about policy implications and
questions; discuss IALS past results; and show how to access
adult literacy and life skills
data. Open to everyone! Co-sponsored by the Data Liberation Initiative and the Research
Data Centres - Partners in Research.
- All Day: Canadian Association of Research Libraries (CARL). "
Here today, gone tomorrow?" :
The brave new world of information communications technology offers access to a cornucopia of resources unknown
to earlier generations. On the other hand, the infrastructure of scholarly communication to ensure long-term access
and preservation is largely absent. Will the researcher’s works of today be accessible to the next generation?
Please join the Canadian Association of Research Libraries, partner organizations, and distinguished international
speakers to explore what may or may not be the future of your scholarly work.
- All Day:
A Journey Through Data - The Riches of the Research Data Centres:
This all-day symposium will focus on the major longitudinal data sets available in the Research Data Centres.
Participants will learn about the analytical potential of these data, and about various methodological issues that
need to be considered when analyzing them. The symposium should be of interest to quantitative social scientists and
applied statisticians interested in the dynamic aspects of social processes. For more information contact
Gustave Goldmann. (gustave.goldman@statcan.ca Gustave Goldman).
