2001 Census of Canada -- Depository Services Program
- Much information is freely available on Statistics Canada's
Census 2001 homepage and the
Winnipeg Neighbourhood Profiles, which are
custom 2001 Census data freely available on the City of Winnipeg website.
- This page is designed to provide links to freely available Census data (level 1 access), plus additional data available
through the Depository Services Program (level 2 access), i.e. for both those affilated with the University of Manitoba and to
walk-in users of the Libraries.
- Links to level 2 data are set up to work within the libraries (in library = restricted only by IP address) and with
the proxy server (remote = log in with student/staff id and pin), so that those affilated with the University can access these data files remotely (i.e. from home).
- Data files for Dissemination area and Forward Sortation area are not linked through this page. Access to these levels of
data are restricted to current faculty, students and staff of the University of Manitoba for non-commercial purposes,
through the Data Liberation Initiative (level 3 access).
- The E-STAT database, available for

is produced by
Statistics
Canada. It provides access to
Profile Census data for Canada, provinces/territories, Census division/subdivision, Metropolitan areas and Census tracts.
E-STAT will allow users to create simple thematic maps.
- Those unfamiliar with the Census may want to look at the
