excerpt:

Adelaide was a young, beautiful slightly outrageous American dancer when she married Alexander Herrmann. At a time when women covered their legs even to ride a bicycle, Herrmann danced freely, kicking up her heels and showing her legs."...She ..could conjure up a hundred colors of silk scarves as big as bed sheets. Her "Noah's Ark” trick was her most famous.

Prepare to be Amazed would be a great selection for a young student seriously interested in magic, magicians, and the history of the most famous magicians from around the world, including Harry Houdini, P.C. Sorcar, Doug Henning and Siegfried and Roy. These fascinating people, including Adelaide Herrmann, the Queen of Magic, are presented in a slim and attractive volume, with illustrations, index and bibliography. Are any deep magic secrets revealed? No, perhaps because it would destroy the illusions that take such skill and practice to present successfully. But the instructions for 10 tricks, one in the style of each magician, would provide ambitious young magicians with some ideas to develop their own magic tricks. Harry Potter has increased interest in magic and special effects, and this well produced book provides some great insights into the world of professional magicians.

Recommended.
