Long Gray Norris is a very bad man, a blight on society, if there ever was one. Brendan doesn't know this until it's too late, but he's really not worried, because after all, he's the "best in the land" at so many things. Again and again, he bests Long Gray Norris and takes home the gold. Then one day, Brendan's very kind heart forces him to give up his win to save a nest of baby eagles. He loses his freedom to Long Gray Norris and must complete some perfectly impossible tasks or face death. But his kindness and sacrifice for others brings him help when he most needs it.
There may have been no moral intended, but this truly delightful story, written by Malachy Doyle, will help children realize that kindness reaps rewards and bullies don't always win. The detailed and colourful illustrations by Sholto Walker highlight the characters and plot and are as enjoyable to look at as the book is to read.
