excerpt:

I peered into the interior. Nick had moved to the back and was searching the trunk area by feeling along the walls and floor. I craned my neck to see if there was anything in the passenger seat and then stepped inside to help Nick.

"Nothing," Nick said.

I was about to check under the seats, when I heard the crunch of gravel.

In this whodunit book, there are three detectives that solve the problem with some help from other friends. Nick, Robyn and Trevor are good friends in school. Interesting incidents begin to happen at school – kids’ lunches go missing as do old donated books that could be worth thousands of dollars. It is up to these three to catch the thieves.

The trio’s search leads them to suspect their teachers, little kids with blue twinkies in their mouth, and their librarian. In fact, they even decide to break into their teachers’ classrooms and cars to find the missing items. The missing books were desperately needed for a fund-raiser literacy fair. Do they find the thief or is it thieves?  Well the reader has to find out.

The characters are believable, but hopefully there aren’t any kids who break into their teachers’ cars.

Swiped is a fast paced, well-written book, written in a simple style for young readers. The compact size of this book will also appeal to beginner and reluctant readers.

Recommended.
