Grimoire,
I might as well confess:

A heartless teacher gave me an F (for Flunkage) in Cooking Skills.

Well so what if my Tuna Noodle Casserole was less than perfect?! (Okay, it was an icky stinkbomb, actually, and the less said about it the better.) Anyway, the result is that my mother has sent me away for a whole year to learn The Art of Kitchen Witchery from my two spinster aunts, Thistle and Nettle - oh, and Granny Grackle, too.

Ivy, a Junior Witch sent to study witchcraft for a year with her aunts, has decided to keep a journal, named Grimoire, to document her experiences. Ivy documents the significant events of the year and explains the origins of many pagan holidays and ceremonies.

Through her delightful retellings of her own experiences, Ivy’s readers learn about a variety of pagan holidays and naturopathic practices that many have come to associate with witchcraft.  Indeed, these remedies, events and lore are really products of very practical and historic activities.

The colourful illustrations are both whimsical and charming. The text truly seems to speak from the experiences of a young witch-in-training. Children (and adults) interested in the roots of “witchcraft” will find this book to be a refreshing convergence of fact and fiction. An absolutely delightful book!

Highly Recommended.
