excerpt:
"Love me, love my bear. Love the oatmeal in my hair." The excerpt is typical of the rhymes found in this picture book. The story follows baby rabbit and Mama rabbit through a day's activities, with a couplet always beginning "Love me, love..." describing each. While adults may find the rhymes a bit strained, young children will probably enjoy them. Because baby rabbit loves all the activities, the book fosters a sense of optimism about the chores and routines of a typical day. The book mentions some positive behaviors, such as going "potty," but also some behaviors to be discouraged, such as the oatmeal in the hair above (which are also the ones the children will remember!). The illustrations in this book are beautiful and complement the story's loving theme. In soft pastel colors and simple lines, these pictures illustrate the mother-child bond seen throughout a typical day's games and chores. While the couplets describe the activities of a typical day, it is the illustrations that make this book pleasing. Recommended. Lisa
