Description of proposed research

Skownan First Nation: For the past three years Career Trek has worked with Skownan First Nation on a long-term career development initiative. Skownan is located approximately 300 Km north of Winnipeg, and students and family members from the community have traveled once per month to participate in a weekend career exploration program. This year the community is coming into Winnipeg three times and the program will be traveling to Skownan three times to hold community-based career development.

This year the all career development programming for the middle years cohort of Skownan will be on careers in science. In this two year study the participants from Skownan First Nation will complete 6 pre and post self-efficacy inventories. These inventories will provide a quantitative measure of the impact of the career development program on self-efficacy in science careers. As well participants will keep a digital diary of their career development experiences and will be interviewed using the photo journal as a tool to encourage conversation, insight and reflection of the career development experience.
