Campus life at Georgia State University
Georgia State University (GSU) is a premier urban research university with an enrollment of over 24,000. The university has a large modern recreational center, numerous lecture series, free films, a library and library privileges with other universities in Atlanta (e.g., Emory). Classes begin mid August, end early in December, and are followed by a final exam period which ends mid December. Students are given a 5-day holiday late in November at Thanksgiving.

Atlanta is a lively and diverse city - the home of Martin Luther King, CNN, and Coca Cola. The city is the intellectual and cultural center of the southeastern United States. Temperatures are very mild with a mix of sunny and rainy days. Outdoor activities are very popular in Atlanta. Atlanta boasts several parks and pathways created specifically for outdoor enthusiasts. Atlanta is home to multiple universities and the large student population insures a thriving youth culture.

Living in Atlanta, Georgia

An estimate of living expenses for Atlanta is $6,000 per semester. University housing is available in the University Lofts for $650.00 per month. Applications are due by February 15. Students can buy a MARTA card that allows them to use the train and bus as much as they want for $26.00 per month.

Opportunities for Supplementing Grant Stipend

Spanish-speaking students from Mexico are eligible for an additional $2,000.00 stipend from the Department of Modern and Classical Languages at GSU for teaching one Spanish course. Canadians might be able to receive a graduate research assistant with an additional $1800.00 stipend but the possibility will vary from year to year.
