Universidad De Las America, Puebla (UDLAP)

The Universidad de las America, Puebla (UDLAP) is a private university dedicated to teaching and research. The total enrollment is slightly over 8,000 students. The university has gymnasiums, a heated swimming pool, an international film series, and a broad variety of cultural events such as music, dance, and theatre. Classes begin the second week of August, and continue through the first week of December, followed by an examination period that runs to December 17. There is a short recess at the beginning of November to celebrate the Day of the Dead.
Cholula, Puebla

The provincial town of Cholula is home to sacred archeological ruins built to worship Quetzalcoatl. Surrounded by three of Mexico's highest volcanoes, Cholula welcomes weekend tourists who come to visit the ruins, and then sit in the town square to enjoy a meal and the view. The Spanish colonial city of Puebla is only 12 miles away. The fourth largest city in Mexico, Puebla is a modern city, offering posh shopping malls in contrast to the Mexican markets so popular in Cholula.

Opportunities for Supplementing Grant Stipend

Students who have completed 18 graduate semester hours are eligible to be Graduate Teaching Assistants in undergraduate language classes. However, beacuse foreign students cannot legally work in Mexico, the pay for GTAs will most likely be applied to university lodging. Pay scales vary according to the year in which the undergraduate and other graduate degrees were earned.
