Children and their families are at the heart of everything we do at the Rehabilitation Centre for Children. We consider our work with families a collaboration between specialists -- the families who are the experts on the child's abilities and needs, and the rehabilitation specialists who are able to suggest programs and assistive technology to help children and families realize their goals.
The goal of the Rehabilitation Centre for children is to provide families with the means and knowledge to help their children achieve optimal independence and quality of life. Given the resources, training and skills, families are very able to support children with special needs in their own communities.
The Rehabilitation Centre for Children is pleased to offer the children and families of the Centre resources specifically for families of children with special needs.

The Take-Out-Toy-Service (TOTS) is a toy lending service funded and operated by Altrusa International of Winnipeg, a women's service club. TOTS is located on the main floor of the Rehabilitation Centre for Children for easy access by families visiting the clinic or therapy areas.
TOTS has many specially adapted battery operated toys for use by children with special needs, in addition to over 400 toys, books and puzzles that provide sensorimotor stimulation as well as lots of fun!
For a minimal yearly membership fee, families may borrow toys up to four weeks at a time. The next time you're visiting the Rehab Centre, stop by at The TOTS library and check out the great toys for children with disabilities.
The Rehabilitation Centre for Children is very grateful to Altrusa International of Winnipeg for the opportunity to offer the children and families of the Centre this excellent resource!

These services are free upon referral up to a level that has been contracted between the Rehabilitation Centre for Children and IRFT. Clients and families of RCC may ask their physician or the Clinic Nurse for a referral for counselling. IRFT is able to respond quickly (two weeks or less) and of course, all services are strictly confidential.
People come to counselling for many different reasons. Some come together as a family. Others come with a partner to learn to cope with stresses they are experiencing. Others come by themselves because they need help with a situation that concerns them alone. Regardless of the reason, people come to IRFT because they want help in coping with matters that are important to them.
One of the missions of IRFT is to assist families, couples and individuals to make changes that will enable them to find greater satisfaction and fulfillment in living. Some of the concerns presented by families, couples and individuals include:
