Single-season Weed Management Options to Reduce Herbicide Use
Although long-term weed management strategies have the most potential for impact on weed pressure in cropping systems, farmers also have many weed management options that can be implemented in a single growing season. Many of these options are agronomic practices that give the crop a competitive edge over weeds.
When weed pressure is already low, these crop management practices may allow farmers to reduce or eliminate herbicide use in one or more growing seasons. While each of these practices may have some impact on weed pressure and herbicide use when used individually, they will be most effective when used together with long-term strategies and other single-season weed management practices.
