The visit to Canada was designed to specifically provide experiential learning for the steering committee/ faculty of Makerere University in tourism management in a developed environment such as Canada.

A stakeholder development workshop focusing upon the TOMM (Tourism Optimization management Model) as a possible framework for sustainable community tourism planning process was held in Kampala.

Curriculum development followed a modified DACUM process and began with a 2 day workshop in Kampala on June 19th and 20th and was attended by representatives from a variety of tourism stakeholder groups.

Awards

Matthew Derksen interned under a Students For Development Internship with the project in the summer of 2007. The results of Matthew's internship work helped identify communities’ readiness to welcome tourism and highlighted  the natural, cultural, build and human resource opportunities and constraints.
