"I remember how a negative and divisive force like racism became a positive force for change at my university. It was a gift from the Creator to a small group of Indigenous students to forge a new path that benefited everyone. I remember how we all pulled together to transform exclusion and stereotypical beliefs into permanent change in the institutions of the University of Manitoba."
Ovide Mercredi [LLB/77]
"For me, the bonus to my degree was meeting my Aggie sweetheart and Bison hockey hero, Wayne [BSA/63]. We spent so many evenings meeting and 'studying' at the Dafoe Library. In addition, I was so fortunate to expand my horizons through participation in UMSU Council, Home Ec. Council, Lady Stick of Education, Winter Carnival chair... those memories are part of my love of U of M."
Lee Anderson [BScHEc/63, Cert Ed/64, BEd/80]
"As a new refugee from Yugoslavia, I was excited with my first job in Canada washing dishes in the University Club's kitchen. Today, I am co-owner of my own architecture firm and an adjunct professor at the University of Manitoba. I tell my students that university is a place where ideas are our most valuable currency and where the only limit is our own ability to dream."
Sasa Radulovic [BEnvD/99, MArch/03]
"Twenty-five years ago as a medical student, the library was a very important place to me! During library hours my classmates and I flipped through huge volumes of index medicus, scoured the stacks for the correct volume of the journal needed and then took home heavy volumes to read. Fast forward 25 years to a beautiful state-of-the-art facility, with information available at home, on your phone or wherever you may be around the globe, and at any time! It's phenomenal!"
