Goals & Objectives
Research Quality Management is an onsite program that provides collaborative support through a variety of educational offerings and oversight verification of research processes to the university and affiliated research sites. Provided in good faith to the university research community, it seeks to facilitate continuing best practices in the safe and ethical conduct of research with humans at the university.
- Promote and celebrate excellence in human research conducted by and at the
U of M.
- Promote ongoing development and maintenance of institutional best practices in the safe and ethical conduct of research with humans.
- Establish educational collaborations and supportive research oversight activities.
Activities
- Researchers are invited to share in a review of current research oversight plans. The RQM Office meets and consults with stakeholders and affiliated institutions to explain the purpose of the RQM program, to identify common goals, and to seek support and counsel.
- Educational support is provided through consultation, facilitation of educational events in collaboration with other institutions, government organizations, and research interest groups. Educational opportunities are shared through on-line (e.g. on-line tutorials, tele/audio conferences), workshop, conference, and lecture-style formats.
- The RQM Office establishes collaborative educational activities that directly support U of M researchers as they conduct safe and ethical research with humans within various U of M (and U of M-affiliated) faculties, departments, and programs.
- RQM site visits will be scheduled by request or by random selection. Site visits can also be completed on a “for-cause” basis. Researchers are invited to volunteer to participate in a site visit(s), specifically to verify the investigative research processes at the research site(s) and to ensure that research with humans is conducted in a safe and ethical manner.
