The lowest form of graffiti art is called "tagging," a practice that I abhor. Other forms of graffiti -- I am thinking of murals -- rival ancient Islamic design in beauty. Yet another form of graffiti is called "buffing." Buffing means covering over graffiti with a block of colour that is close to the colour of its wall. Some graffiti artists are also buffers, and that trend may be related to the 26ers turn toward a kind of formalist painting in their prefabs. -- Cliff Eyland. |
