MBIO 3470 LAB INFORMATION
Lab starts Wednesday, January 13, 2010 in room
302 Buller. Lab manuals are handed out in class the first week of lectures.
All essential lab related information is given in the lab manual.
Students divided alphabetically by last
name into two sections:
Section 1 (L-Z) starts at 2:30 pm
Section 2 (A-K) starts at 3:30 pm the first week (see general instructions
in your lab manual for other start times)
If you wish to switch sections, you must find a student
in the other section willing to change sections, then confirm with me.
Section student division is subject to change if
enrolment distribution of last names change prior to start of lab.
The first lab starts with a SOP and Safety quiz (10 min), come
prepared. SOP and laboratory biosafety guide information
Come prepared the first lab ready to comply with all standard
operations procedures.
Reminders:
You need a separate lab coat for MBIO 3470 that stays in the lab. You
must bring your lab coat the first lab and a bag to hold your lab coat.
No outer clothing or back packs allowed in the lab, only lab manual, notebook
and pens. Small lockers available in the hall outside the lab. Long hair
must be tied back. No open toed shoes.

Read lab report presentation section in general instructions at the beginning of your lab manual before doing your lab report. Lab reports must typed. This includes calculations. 10% of the mark subtracted for portion of report not typed.

Gram Stain addendum - the company has notified us that the safranin counter
stain contains gram positive coccoid artifacts. The coccoids are artifacts
of the stain, not culture contamination.
LAB 5 Streptococcaceae
Streptococcus hemolysis data
Scan of Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus agalactiae, and
Streptococcus faecalis growing on sheep blood agar plates. Incubated
at 37C for two days.
