Advising Excellence Award

Wendy McLean has established the Advising Excellence Award at the University of Manitoba.

The purpose is to recognize staff for their outstanding academic and student advising achievements. One award of $300 will be offered annually beginning in 2018-19 to full or part-time staff who are employed as Academic or Student Advisors at the University of Manitoba.

Candidates or their nominator should submit a letter outlining how they have shown excellence in advising over the past year (maximum 500 words).

The selection committee, to be named by the Vice-Provost (Students), including the President of the University of Manitoba Advisor Exchange, will consider the following criteria:

  1. Improvements to processes and procedures;
  2. Building collaborations, teamwork excellence;
  3. Demonstrating creativity and innovation;
  4. Outstanding efforts with individual students;
  5. High levels of student engagement resulting from innovating practices;
  6. Creative programming for advising students;
  7. Productive use of University or community resources.

The letter should include the following:

  • Name
  • Unit
  • Email address, and
  • Years of service

Letters of support (one page maximum) may also be included.
