Tutor Registry

The tutor registry is a listing of independent tutors for content courses that are offered at the University of Manitoba. The Academic Learning Centre does not provide content tutoring or hire content tutors; instead, this registry allows students to find tutors for courses in which they'd like extra support, and it allows independent tutors to advertise their services.

Tutors listed on the tutor registry are not employees, contractors or agents of the University of Manitoba. The University makes no representation or warranty as to the tutors' skills or qualifications, except that they meet the minimum requirements below. The University does not check the criminal history or character of the listed tutors. The University does not endorse or recommend any particular tutor listed on the registry, and this listing is provided solely as a service to students to use at their own risk. All financial and other business arrangements are strictly between the tutor and the tutee. The University shall not be liable for any problems or disputes which arise in the course of the tutor-tutee relationship.

Frequently Asked Questions -- Tutors

In order to be part of the tutor registry, tutors need to have a minimum GPA of 2.5, have achieved a B+ or higher in the course/s they are tutoring, have completed the 6-hour UM tutor training workshop, and have signed the tutor ethics agreement. In order to be listed as an EAL tutor, tutors need to have met the criteria of Standard 1 (Interim) Certification or equivalent with TESL Canada. A tutor may be removed from the tutor registry if the University in its absolute discretion believes that the tutor has failed to abide by the Tutor Code of Ethics, does not meet the minimum qualifications, or it is otherwise in the best interests of students to do so.
