Special Students

You may apply as a special student if you wish to enrol in degree credit courses, but are not interested in pursuing a degree. Courses completed may subsequently be accepted as credit towards a degree, diploma or certificate at the discretion of the program dean or director.

Application Process
Special students can register for courses in the following programs:

Faculty of Agricultural & Food Sciences - returning students who have graduated from the faculty
Agriculture Diploma - Applicants must obtain faculty permission

Faculty of Arts - for applicants with a previously completed degree.
Fine Arts - Applicants must obtain faculty permission
Clayton H. Riddell Faculty of Environment, Earth, and Resources - for applicants with a previously completed degree
General Studies: Extended Education - new or returning university students
Faculty of Human Ecology - for applicants with a previously completed degree
Faculty of Kinesiology & Recreation Management - returning students who have graduated from the faculty
Faculty of Science - for applicants with a previously completed degree

Note: Students must obtain permission from the Dean's Office to take courses as a special student in all other U of M faculties and programs.

Required Documents

  • Original or certified transcripts are required from all previous universities/colleges. University of Manitoba graduates who have not attended another institution since their graduation do not have to submit a transcript.

  • Original or certified high school transcripts required if less than 24 credit hours are completed at another institution or for students who have never attended university/college.

Note: Proof of citizenship or Permanent Residence status and demonstration of proficiency in the use of the English language may be required for applicant born outside of Canada.
