This program runs three times a year beginning in September, January, and May. Each level consists of 24 hours per week of instruction for 15 weeks, including a one-week midterm break. Tuition and other fees can be viewed here.

Advanced Levels 1-4
These levels are designed to prepare advanced level students for academic study. English language skills necessary for success in a university setting are emphasized. Some of the functions practised include:
  • listening to lectures
  • learning new vocabulary
  • practising reading strategies
  • giving presentations
  • writing essays
Study is enhanced by activities with:
  • English speaking guests in the classroom
  • group discussions
  • role play
  • out of classroom cultural activities, around the City of Winnipeg and the Province of Manitoba
Students who successfully complete the course, write the CanTEST© (Canadian Test of English for Scholars and Trainees). Satisfactory test results can be used to meet the language requirements of the University of Manitoba.

Advanced Level 5:
Academic English Program for University and College Entrance (AEPUCE)
AEPUCE is the fifth level of the Intensive Academic Program designed to prepare students for admission to the University of Manitoba. It is a bridge program that links advanced English and university credit courses. A student who successfully completes AEPUCE has met the English requirements of the following schools:
  • The University of Manitoba
  • The University of Winnipeg
  • Red River College
The entrance requirement for this course is a TOEFL© score of 500 (173 CBT, 64iBT with at least 15 in each component), or a CanTEST© band 3.5, or equivalent.
In this course, students will practise the functions required in an academic program. For example:
  • participating in and leading a seminar
  • listening to and taking notes from a lecture
  • writing a research paper
  • practising critical thinking skills from readings or discussions
  • course assignments and exercises corresponding to university course assignments
  • each student will be assessed on completed assignments and in-class tests
Students who have attended 80% of the classes and achieved a score of 65% in each of Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking will have met the English language requirement of the University of Manitoba. No further English language testing will be required.

Students who wish to attend the University of Manitoba must ensure that they are familiar with the academic eligibility requirements. Please refer to the U of M's International Entrance Requirements, or contact an admissions representative in Enrolment Services. Some faculties, such as the Faculty of Law, may require higher language proficiency scores and therefore will not accept AEPUCE to meet the language requirements. Please check with your program of interest to ensure that AEPUCE is acceptable for admission.
