In January 2006, we implemented a new practice when placing students in Homestay. At the beginning of each new placement, we require the family and the student to review together and sign The Homestay Pledge.
The Homestay Pledge:
- is a simple, two-page document which outlines what the commitment to Homestay entails
- it outlines what the respective responsibilities of each party are
- it includes a promise for either, or both parties, to request assistance and/or mediation when necessary
The Homestay Pledge simply reminds both families and students of the commitment made to Homestay when they applied and were accepted to the program.
- For families who have hosted many students, it ensures that they do not become lax about that commitment
- For students who may have had their application completed and submitted by an agent, friend or family member, it ensures that they are personally aware of the commitment made to follow the program guidelines
