Homestay - Student Application

IMPORTANT NOTICES FOR THE UPCOMING WI NTER 2014 TERM:

Submission Deadline:

  • Due to high enrollment, Homestay spaces may not be available for all that apply.
  • The ELC reserves the right to close the Homestay application at any time due to lack of Homestay spaces.
  • The deadline to submit fees, arrival information and ELC tuition fees, student visa copies, etc. is December 1, 2013.
  • Please submit all needed documentation and fees well before the deadline.
  • Homestay applications that are completed by December 1, 2013 will be processed in the order that they were initially received until available Homestay spaces are filled. All other completed applicants will be placed on a waiting list and may not be eligible for a Homestay.
  • Homestay applications that are not complete (eg. no student visa, arrival time or payment) at the time of the deadline will be placed on a waiting list for Homestay placement, and may not be eligible for a Homestay.

Availability & Coverage Period

  • Homestay placements will be available to begin January 1, 2014
  • Students may not move into Homestay until January 1, 2014. Students who arrive before January 1, 2014 will be responsible for their own airport pickup and accommodation.We request that you do not book a flight that arrives after midnight. If you need to book a flight that arrives past midnight you will need to stay in the airport hotel overnight and be picked up by the host the next day.
  • The Homestay fees cover 4 months from the date of arrival.
  • Homestay placements are filled on a "first come, first served" basis and are subject to availability.
  • The Homestay program gives preference to new students.
  • Students must be 17 years of age or older to be eligible for the University of Manitoba English Language Centre Homestay Program.
  • Homestay hosts do not provide custodianship and the University of Manitoba does not provide custodianship.

Placement Test

  • The English Language Centre placement test for new students will be held January 3, 2013 (tentative).

ELC Classes - Start Date

  • ELC classes begin January 6, 2014.

Fee Payment

  • Homestay applicants attending the ELC may pay their Homestay fees along with ELC tuition fees.
  • Please indicate the amount intended for Homestay when making the payment. View payment information.
  • If the Homestay applications & fees, ELC tuition fees, student visa copy and arrival information are submitted early, Homestay details will be provided sooner.
  • Homestay applicants who are beginning a course of study at a time other than at the beginning of a regular term (January, May or September) should submit their Homestay application and fees at least one month prior to arrival.

I understand that I will not be given a Homestay placement until I have provided my arrival information and paid $3,150.00 CAD ($3,200 for ICM students). These fees include a non-refundable, $150.00 application fee or $200.00 application fee for ICM students, a $200 administrative fee and $2,800.00 for the first 4 month's Homestay (the 4 month Homestay fee is non-refundable after the student has moved into Homestay). *Fees are subject to change without notice.
