Consent, Communication & Confidentiality

Consent:

The University of Manitoba is committed to the principles of access to information and the protection of privacy outlined in the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA). If a student wishes to authorize another individual to access their student award information, they need to complete a “Release of Applicant’s Undergraduate/Graduate Information” form. Please visit the link on the right hand side for a copy of the form.

Communication:

The University of Manitoba will only use your U. of M. email account for official communications, including messages from your professors, department, advisors and administrative offices.  If you are an incoming student you will be provided information on how to claim your U. of M. email account.  If you are an existing student and have not yet claimed your U. of M. email account or have forgotten your password please visit the links on the right hand side.

Confidentiality:

The University of Manitoba respects the privacy of past and present students.  All student accounts at the University of Manitoba are protected by the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA).  To gain access to a student's account a consent form must be completed and handed into Financial Aid and Awards.  Parents of first year students will be unable to access information of any dependent student's account until the consent form is completed.  Although children often rely on their parents for help, the university experience is meant to begin developing them into successful independent adults.  For more information concerning FIPPA and to download the Financial Aid and Awards consent form please visit the links on the right hand side.
