Special Bursaries

The following bursaries are targeted to specific groups of students who also have demonstrated financial need. The following alphabetical list includes a short description of each bursary's eligibility criteria and award value. Please go to the linked pdf document for detailed eligibility criteria and a copy of the award application.

NOTE: The special bursaries listed may have submission deadlines later than the UM General Bursary deadline, but still require that you have completed the University of Manitoba general bursary application through the online process.  Special bursaries will be posted once we receive application forms.


Flying Officer George Finkle Memorial Bursary: A $650 award for full time students in good academic standing who are members of the Regular Canadian Armed Forces or Primary Reserve (or members of the immediate family of a Regular Forces member). Application period closed.

Student Library Worker Bursary: A $950 award for a full time student who is working part time in the libraries at either the Fort Garry or Bannatyne campus. Application period closed.

Loius Riel Bursary: 104 awards available worth $1500 each, for full time Métis students with demonstrated financial need. Before applying, please read the instructions thoroughly and then complete the applications.  For the paper application please click here. SMD Graduate Bursary: A $5000 bursary for a graduate student pursuing an interdisciplinary Master’s program in Disability Studies.  Application period closed.

Carla Thorlakson Memorial Bursary: For a full time student studying or conducting research into human migration, the status of women in Canada and worldwide, and/or the roles that Canada’s Foreign Service or its civil society can play in defining and implementing Canada’s roles in the international community.  Application period closed.

Victoria Inn Bursary: A $275 bursary for a staff member or the sibling of a staff member of the Victoria Inn enrolled full time in any faculty or school at the University of Manitoba.  Application period closed.
