International Students

The University of Manitoba rewards the academic achievements of International Students through entrance scholarships for international high school graduates as well as scholarships and awards for current undergraduate and graduate international students. In addition to these scholarships, the UM has established a bursary program designed to assist international students with finanacial need meet the cost of tuition and living expenses.

International Student Health Insurance Relief Fund: the purpose of this fund is to provide some financial support in the form of a bursary to students facing financial hardship primarily due to the costs associated with health care coverage.  Pre-screening criteria for this fund are as follows:

  • You must have paid all tuition owing for both the current and previous academic sessions.
  • You must have repaid all outstanding emergency aid from previous academic sessions.
  • You must be a full-time student in the current academic session.
  • You must have achieved the minimum passing grade on all courses taken in the previous academic session.
  • You must demonstrate that your current financial distress is a direct result of the costs of your health insurance and that financial support is needed in order to continue with your studies at the university.

International students in their first year of post-secondary study in Canada are not eligible to apply to the general bursary program.

International Graduate students should refer to the Faculty of Graduate Studies for information on awards and scholarships for international graduate students.
