Health and Wellness Welcome
University can be an exciting yet challenging time for students. Not only are students asked to write scholarly papers and memorize ample amounts of information, they are also ensuring that they have adequate funds to cover tuition costs, rent and food expenses; trying to stay physically healthy by eating a well-balanced diet and exercising; maintaining healthy relationships with loved ones and perhaps enduring a pre-existing physical or mental health condition that may cause its own challenges.

The Health and Wellness program at the University of Manitoba understands the health issues that students face these days and wants to support an outstanding student experience that includes health and wellness.

Julia Civka, Health and Wellness Educator
My name is Julia Civka and I am the new Health and Wellness educator with Student Services at the University of Manitoba. I am very excited to have the opportunity to work in this newly created position to assist students in adopting healthy lifestyle habits and coping skills to thrive in both the university setting and life in general.

I am a graduate from the University of Winnipeg Athletic Therapy program, as well as the University Of Manitoba's Faculty of Nursing. I have practiced nursing in many fields throughout the years including child and adolescent mental health, primary care, home care, sexual health, travel health and immunization nursing.

I also promote health in other facets of my life by instructing fitness and yoga classes, presenting workshops on body image and eating disorders and previously teaching in the Faculty of Kinesiology and Applied Health at the University of Winnipeg for several years.

In my role as the Health and Wellness educator, I will create an advisory committee that includes representation of units with a special interest in health and wellness to assist in the identification and development of programming that addresses the primary areas of student health and wellness including mental health, alcohol and drug use, relationship issues, physical activity and nutrition.

I look forward to working with you in making your university experience a positive and memorable one.
