Indebted Development : The Efficacy of Providing Loans to the Poor
A panel discussion on the profit and perils of microfinance, that most popular solution to the problem of poverty. John Serieux (Assistant Professor of Economics, University of Manitoba), Lubna Yeasmin (Natural Resources Institute, University of Manitoba), and Jerry Buckland (Associate Professor of International Development Studies, University of Winnipeg) will be out panelists, with Ian Hudson (Associate Professor of Economics, University of Manitoba) moderating.

Who are the Romani? Dispelling “Gypsy” Fantasy, Revealing Marginalized History
A presentation and discussion on the Romani, their place in contemporary Europe and Canada’s role in their persecution. Armando Perla (Canadian Museum for Human Rights) and Ronald Lee (Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Roma Community Center in Toronto) will be speaking on Roma history and current integration into Canada.
