SUMMER INSTITUTE FOR STUDENT LEADERSHIP AND GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP

A 10-day Think-Tank for University of Manitoba Students

For 10 days, 20 Canadian and 20 international students will come together to explore issues related to student leadership and global citizenship through an international development lens.  The group will work together to generate a formal statement on global citizenship, why it matters and how students and a University like our own can promote a more equitable, sustainable, and people centred-vision of development.

With professional guidance from experts in the media, the document will be presented to the President of the University, and will be shared with the Manitoba Council for International Cooperation (MCIC) as part of its public engagement strategy.

Public Components:
  • During the Institute, you can follow the group's progress as participants share their thoughts and impressions through Blog entries and videos.

  • A series of public lectures will take place during the Institute.  Guest speakers include Ryan Hreljac, Japhet Emmanuel, Edgar Sanchez, Ian Smillie, and Nahlah Ayed.

The Summer Institute for Student Leadership & Global Citizenship is sponsored by the Canadian International Development Agency and the University of Manitoba.
