President's message on Academic Integrity
The University of Manitoba has built a tradition of excellence with the ideas and passion of our outstanding students, faculty and staff as its foundation.

We place the highest possible value on individual and collaborative human achievement and we are committed in both policy and practice to ensuring that scholarship and research on our campuses are conducted by following the highest possible ethical standards.

The University of Manitoba is proud to be a member of the International Center for Academic Integrity (ICAI). Like the ICAI, this university is committed to the values that are essential to building a strong community of learning discovery and engagement. They include honesty, trust, fairness, respect and responsibility.

The regulations governing this university have been established because we are all expected to abide by these principles to ensure that academic freedom is protected and we are accountable for how we conduct ourselves on and off our campuses.

The value of a degree from the University of Manitoba is dependent on students and faculty upholding the values of honesty and integrity in all their work. Not only does dishonesty deprive individuals of learning but it also devalues the hard work and effort of other students who are working honestly to achieve their degrees.

When we fail to uphold the highest academic integrity standards, we damage our personal reputations and we put at risk the legacy of excellence that we have built together over 135 years.

David T. Barnard, Ph.D.
