What is DACUM?

The DACUM model is being adopted by training institutions and industrial training departments on a worldwide basis. The model has three major components:

  • Job Analysis;
  • Program Development;
  • Program Implementation

This model facilitates the development of competency-based training. Module I deals with the training of facilitators for job analysis. Module II deals with the development and implementation of a competency-based program.

Workshop Leaders

With 27 years of experience in competency-based program development and over 275 occupational analyses to his credit, Larry Coffin is Canada's leading expert on the DACUM process. He has conducted workshops in all the provinces of Canada as well as in a large number of states in the U.S., and internationally. Since 1974, Larry has been conducting facilitator workshops for people from Business, Industry and Education

Pierre Morin has more than 25 years of experience in the fields of education and training. He has pioneered the implementation of the DACUM model in Quebec's business and industrial sector. Through these years, Pierre has facilitated several occupational analyses and developed numerous competency -based programs for business and industry as well as for academic institutions.

Module I
DACUM Facilitator

This Module will be given on October 21-25, 2002

The DACUM Analysis Committee is led by a trained facilitator who works with the committee to identify the competencies or outcomes. This is a demanding role and requires a high degree if leadership ability.

Workshop Objectives
Upon completion of this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Orient people to the DACUM process;
  • Convene a panel of occupational experts;
  • Facilitate a DACUM analysis


Workshop Methodology

This is a hands-on workshop. Activities will include seminars, discussions, role play, presentation of an orientation program, and simulated DACUM analysis session.

Each participant will receive a DACUM Facilitator Manual to be used as a resource material during and after the workshop.

The CVA DACUM Facilitator National Certification Program

All Graduates of the DACUM Facilitator workshop will have the opportunity to become CVA certified DACUM facilitators upon completion of a competency-based certification process. This workshop, or an equivalent, is the initial step toward certification.

Module II
Program Development and Implementation

This module will be given on October 15-17, 2002

Workshop Objectives

Upon completion of this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Analyse and use a DACUM occupational analysis for training purposes;
  • Establish and implement a competency-based program development model;
  • Define further subtasks to further elaborate support task statements;
  • Determine performance indicators and standards;
  • Write and produce learning Guides

In addition, you will provided with an overview of:

  • Key components of competency based training;
  • Implementation of a learning Model
  • Performance-based evaluation;
  • Concepts of a learner warranty process.

Workshop Methodology

This is an application-orientated workshop. Participants will be given the opportunity to perform job profiling exercises, to determine core competencies, to set training priorities and to develop learning guides.
