Education As
It Should Be: The Evolving Partnership Between Manitoba Aerospace Human
Resources Coordinating Committee (MAHRCC) and the Technical Vocational
(Tec Voc) High School of Winnipeg
Abstract:
The purpose of our
workshop would be to highlight the attributes of the strong partnership
that has developed between a school and an industry sector. Tec Voc
is the largest vocational school in the province of Manitoba and offers
its 1200 students regular academic curriculum as well as the opportunity
to enroll in one of 20 major vocational programs. MAHRCC, a not-for-profit
organization, was established in 1992. Its mandate is to address the
training and educational needs of the aerospace industry in Manitoba.
In the winter of 1994, MAHRCC decided to find a high school with which
it could develop a partnership. Coincidentally, Tec Voc was actively
seeking new partnership opportunities within the business community.
The initial meetings between Tec Voc and MAHRCC were very positive and
the basis of a lasting partnership was formed. What began as tentative
agreements has developed into a complex, vibrant and evolving partnership.
