CAF-FCA - An
Innovative Partnership in Canadian Apprenticeship
Abstract:
The establishment
of the Canadian Apprenticeship Forum - Forum canadien sur l'apprentissage
(CAF-FCA) has provided a vehicle for the apprenticeship community to
collaborate on key issues and challenges apprenticeship. Established
in 2000, CAF-FCA brings together representatives of business, labour,
education, equity groups, apprenticeship board chairs, Directors of
Apprenticeship and Human Resources Development Canada.
CAF-FCA's objectives
include the promotion of apprenticeship as an education system leading
to the development of a skilled workforce. In addition, the constituent
organizations work through CAF-FCA to support the apprenticeship systems
across Canada.
Through a project
based approach, CAF-FCA has implemented a number of initiatives in support
of its objectives. The presentation will provide detail on these initiatives
and their potential impact on this critical segment of the labour market.

Keith Lancastle
Keith Lancastle
was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta; he has spent the better part
of the last twenty years working with a range of skilled trade based
industries.
In 1982, he began
his career with the Automotive Service and Repair Association (Alberta)
and served the organization in a number of roles for over 10 years.
In 1992, Keith joined the Canadian Automotive Repair and Service (CARS)
Council and served as the Executive Director of the CARS Institute.
Keith left CARS
in the fall of 1996 and established a consulting and project management
practice working with a number of industrial sector councils and other
non-profit organizations. During this time, Keith also successfully
completed an MBA through Athabasca University.
In September of
2000 he was appointed as the first Executive Director of the Canadian
Apprenticeship Forum - Forum canadien sur l'apprentissage (CAF-FCA).
