i am from singapore. its sunny and horridly humid where i am from.
yes its my first year. i cant seem to be on time for morning classes because i usually have no idea how to dress up for the day as its so cold in the mornings and so damn hot in the afternoons. the chairs are so narrow in lectures its hard to keep holding onto my bag, my file, my coat all throughout the lecture ... and theres quite a few in the day. hate it.

Well...if you find the mornings cold...I don't know what to say...I am also newcommer to Winnipeg (from Europe) and I am sincerly afraid of the winter...I don't know what to expect...I've never felt -30 degrees C. But anyway...I hope we will all be fine.
The solution at least for me is to wear something that you can take off easily when it gets hot. I don't really have any problems with that though...
I don't know about the chairs...I find them quite comfortable...I think they are pretty much ok. I personally leave my bag infront of me and this is what most people do. I don't wear coats yet but I put my jacket in my bag while in class. This is kind of good solution, at least it works for me.
I don't know what you are used to in Singapore, I've never been there...but I thing Winnipeg and the whole region around it is very beautiful, the air is clean and the people are friendly...I am just looking forward to the cold winter...

Hey, if you want a really great way to meet lots of people and do lots of fun stuff... you should join a Fraternity or Sorority. I joined Phi Delta Theta (www.manitobaphi.ca) in my first year and some of my best and closest friends are also members. We do lots of fun stuff like Go-Karting, seeing movies, playing hockey, meeting girls... etc. and the Sororities do the same stuff (except more girl-oriented)
My girlfriend is a member of Alpha Gamma Delta (http://agd.nexventures.com) which is a sorority (a student group for girls)
You should check em out, it really was one of the best decisions I ever made!

I'm from Brandon, which is about two hours from here. The winters are really cold but theres tons of fun things to do. Skiing, tobogganing, and skating are really great to do with friends. Snowball fights are awesome too

hey there. I'm aware many of us are trying to digest the many new things here. Believe me. Where I come from the temperature is like 34C and here it'll be -30's so it's a great contrast but hey, I'm looking forward to the changes. It'll be a great change.
Maybe when it snows we all can have a snowball fight to kill of time, boredom and ice-breaking.

I am also new to canada, bored on weekends like you.
Shanghai is also very humid like Singapore. I like the weather here, very comfortable.
By the way, the lowest temperature I have experienced is -7c. I am looking forward to feeling the Winnipeg winter.

I am also new to the province... coming over from Alberta. I have found some things to do on campus (new experiences as well) that some of you might enjoy. Guitar classes, beginner spanish courses, squash 101 (a sport which is getting extremely popular.) Also, there are tons of sporting events which is a great way to meet people! There is the women's hockey home opener this weekend and the men's hockey opener is next weekend. Both weekends the games start at 7.

This is a great attitude! Too many people who are NOT used to the cold go On and ON about it once it get here. It will be hard at times but try and prepare for it with warm clothes. Take it as a new experience and find ways to enjoy it like the skating and such that were mentioned. Everyone likes to complain about it (its something to talk about!) but then the smart ones smile and move on. Good luck everyone!
