Well, where do you guys go between classes? I usually try to avoid university centre since it's always so busy.
I personally try to stay around Tier-Fletcher Argue because I have my locker and lots of classes there. Theres a nice area on the 200 level of Fletcher Argue with nice comfy couches where I go to read sometimes.

Heh... I guess Tier-Fletcher Argue makes sense, as you're an Arts student. I'm a CompSci student, so I tend to stay in the new Engineering building, usually in one of the computer labs. I'm quite interested in this subject as well though; I know there are some lounges for certain departments or groups, it would interesting to have a list of them, in case someone feels curious about a particular subject.
Here's another question, since you mention it: is it rude to talk to someone who's reading? Would you be terribly offended?

Is there a Computer Science Students' Association? It's listed in the UMSU's list of student groups but it's website has not been update since like 2002-2003. I sent an e-mail to them but didn't receive any response. I know that there is Science Students' Association, but that's different.
And btw. the couches in Fletcher are perfect, why don't we have them in EITC?

I was actually the secretary for the CSSA (Computer Science Student's Association) in my first year, and we had a few events, a social etc, but I believe most of the executive members graduated, and I don't believe anyone else kept things running after that year (2003). Most events didn't get a lot of attendance, and it seems like most of the social events in Computer Science are related with the co-op program, at the moment.
Couches are for sissies! It's all about the posture-destroying black plastic chairs. There are some couches in EITC, but I believe most if not all are in the Engineering Student's Association lounge rooms.

No I don't think I would be very offended if someone talked to me while reading, in fact I might welcome a distraction from my textbooks.
Il have to get some drinks at Wise Guys between classes, make the day go by faster. Are they resonably priced at least?

Hey folks,
If you're looking for a place to hang out in EITC, swing by IEEE. We're in room E1-514 (you can take the elevator by the front up or go up to the 5th floor from the E3 or E2 elevators).
We have a great place and a great bunch of people. Currently we are just getting settled back in so our lab isn't quite operational yet, but aside from that we've got couches, videogames, computers (w/ printer), a canteen (well stocked and reasonable prices), coffee, etc..
We're holding a Pizza/Movie Night this Friday that's open to any IEEE or UMES members (CS Students are also welcome). Drop on by at 5:30 in room 270A. For $2 you get some pizza, a drink, a movie and you can meet our execs and hear about what we've got planned for the year.

Very nice suggestions. I'm somewhat surprised that nobody has mentioned the Science Lounge in Armes- most people there are actually quite sociable, and often (during the regular year, as opposed to summer) there are video games going on(most commonly Smash Bros Melee, or Street Fighter. Anyone can play).
If anyone reading this is a)religious, b)an anime fan, or c) drunk or traveling down a frozen hill somewhere, stop by the basement of Helen Glass(nursing); there are oodles of student groups for pretty much anybody.
I'm usually found at the anime room, or smashing.
Also: for sleeping, there's a room in Tier, maybe 112 or something, that is an unmarked door leading to a room of couches--it is one big naproom! Wonderfully comfy, much like the arts' lounge in Argue

My required classes are spread between math, science and arts.. so I tend to sit around the outside of UC. I don't know any one at the university, and being a 'mature' u1 student.. It's a little awkward to meet students in my classes (most of which are not even 20), not to mention I am painfully shy. I am definitely in search of a new place to read/watch people/eat. UC is just insanely packed at times.

Actually you might be better off hooking up with other mature students, and finding places you can go hang out together. I don't know, maybe there is a mature students discussion thread around here somewhere? This would be a good place to start getting connected with other mature students I think.
