learn when to use the "eh?" thing that Canadians say
So I've been here a few days now and I here this "eh?" being used in different contexts... Sounds kinda nice, as far is I've figured it out it's a way to say "isn't it?" am i right? are there other ways of doing that?

"eh?"
you're right about the phrases that "eh?" tends ot be used for. There are many ways people use the "eh?" expression, but my feeling is DON'T do it! I was born and raised in Manitoba and let me tell ya, it is an extremely annoying, and streotypical word. Pass on using this new word; there'll be many more words that catch your ear and don't say "farmer" or "hick" like the word "eh!" Happy

I disagree completely. It's an awesome colloquialism of Canadian English and there's nothing at all wrong with using it. I certainly am not a hick, nor do I associate the word 'eh' with being one, and lord knows I say it all the time.

More than meaning "isn't it", as in "Man it's freakin hot out today, eh?", 'eh' can be used in a statement to raise someone's awareness to some matter.

"Don't buy that, eh."
"That's crappy beer, eh." <-- not necessarily meaning "isn't it", because it isn't a question. You're telling someone it's crappy beer, say, if they haven't tried it yet.

Sure eh
It also serves as a period.

Note the above sentence sounds just fine like, "It also serves as a period eh?".

Most of the time "eh" gets used to as a way to make a statement and yet keep the statement open to debate. E.g., Christmas is almost here eh? Or, that band is awesome eh?
