The university offers both a POP3 and IMAP service for your email. The difference between POP3 and IMAP is that with POP3 it downloads the messages and stores them on the computer that you're using to read your email. If you use IMAP, it keeps all of your email on the server so that you can view it from multiple computers and webmail without having to worry about which computer downloads your mail. The only disadvantage to using IMAP is that you have to worry about your 10Mb space limit. One possible solution to this could be periodically downloading all your email with POP3 or you could just be very organized and delete old mail once in a while. To connect with Thunderbird (or any other email client for that matter), simply add the account and use "mail.cc.umanitoba.ca" for the server and select either POP3 or IMAP depending on which type you want. Also, I would highly recommend connecting with TLS or SSL authentication.(not sure which the uofm offers, try SSL first and if that fails, fall back to TLS). SSL and TLS both make sure that your credentials and/or data are encrypted prior to being sent over the net. Without this, your username/password (or even your mail itself) could be snagged by someone else. Good luck, and happy email reading.[/QUOTE]
