This "Text Marking and Highlighting"Flash handout explains the benefits and purpose of text marking (writing interactively in your texts), as well as what to mark and when to mark it.

Fairly helpful, I don't mark up my text books often. When i read ahead of the class, sometimes i highlight things that are not important. Apparently there's more to marking up your textbooks than just highlighting, thanks guys!
