Buy a notebook computer
I need to buy a notebook computer. But I heard people say it's not necessary for University, that in fact, most students rarely use notebooks because of the availability of labs on campus.

I bought one and it has helped me out alot. Go to TigerDirect.ca. That's where I got mine and it's awesome....plus....then you don'thave to wait for labs to open, and you can work on your assignments whenever and wherever you want without inconvenience.

Yeah, I've been thinking of getting one too. Unfortunetely I don't have the money for it right now, and I only have one year of school left. I have plenty of uses for it afterwards, however. It would definetely make assignments easier. Oh, and thanks for the website, I'm looking it up now.

Once you go mac, you will never go back.

What's great about a Mac is that it *just works*. With the new macs, if you absolutely need a windows application, you can run it with either Boot Camp or Parallels.

In my opinion, it really depends on how many assignments you have to do, and if you're picky (like me) about where you'd like to do them.

I'm nearing the end of my degree, so I have lots and lots of papers to write. Last year, I spent a lot of time in the labs, however, I got sick of them after a while, and I found that the environment wasn't always... how do you put it... inspirational. So I got a laptop - well for that reason, and my computer at home really sux, and I'm moving out soon, so I need my own.

The portability of any laptop you have will really determine how much you use it around campus. If it's a 17', 10lb desktop replacement, chances are, you won't be using it at all around campus, when labs are available. But if its just a tiny little 13' or so one, you'll probably find yourself using it a lot more around campus, even when you're not using it for assignments, cuz its easier... and cooler that way Tongue Out

oh, and if availability of labs at school is an issue, I don't think I've ever seen the UNIX labs at Machrae hall closed (and i've been at the uofm at 3AM on a friday in the summer - don't ask)
