Familiarize yourself with graduate policies and procedures in your program

You may first hear about U of M graduate student policies and procedures when you attend your program and campus-wide orientation sessions. However, there are still many details that you will need to understand as you begin your formal graduate study.

  • Faculty of Graduate Studies Policies and Procedures:
    The FGS website contains a wealth of valuable information and guidelines to help new graduate students. All new students should visit the following pages:

  • Departmental Policies and Requirements:
    Some departments have supplemental regulations to those outlined in the FGS academic guide. Check your department's website, and talk to your advisor or department's administrative assistant for information on the policies, procedures, regulations, and deadlines specific to your program.
