Welcome to the U of M!

Welcome to the University of Manitoba!

Before you begin your formal studies here at the University of Manitoba, if you haven't already done so, take some time to familiarize yourself with the campus. The following pages will help you in this regard.

  • Attending orientations
  • Becoming familiar with policies

    Finding Your Way Around Campus

If you are new to the U of M campus, it's a good idea to take the time to tour and become familiar with the campus before you get too busy with your graduate pursuits.

Need maps? The campus map website includes maps of both the Fort Garry and Bannatyne Campuses, locations of libraries and computer labs, a parking map, and a map of the tunnel system.

    Attend graduate program orientation sessions

All new graduate students at U of M are welcome and strongly encouraged to attend orientation sessions offered by their respective departments, as well as the campus-wide graduate student orientation sessions offered by the Faculty of Graduate Studies and the Graduate Students' Association. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about tips for graduate student success, how to apply for merit-based funding, and about campus resources. You should have received information about your department's orientation schedule before you arrived on campus in the fall. For more information about the Graduate Students' Association orientation, visit the GSA orientation website, or call 474-9181. For information on campus-wide orientations, click here.

Familiarize yourself with graduate policies and procedures in your program

You may first hear about U of M graduate student policies and procedures when you attend your program and campus-wide orientation sessions. However, there are still many details that you will need to understand as you begin your formal graduate study.

  • Faculty of Graduate Studies Policies and Procedures:
The FGS website contains a wealth of valuable information and guidelines to help new graduate students. All new students should visit the following pages:

  • Departmental Policies and Requirements:
Some departments have supplemental regulations to those outlined in the FGS academic guide. Check your department's website, and talk to your advisor or department's administrative assistant for information on the policies, procedures, regulations, and deadlines specific to your program.
