Math Diagnostic Test
Page 1 / 1
University level math is challenging even for those of us who do well (75%>) in High School mathematics. Those of us who received less than 75% in Math 40S Pre-Calc face an even bigger challenge. In addition, most of us forget information when it isn’t used regularly; this can happen even over the two months between H.S. graduation and the first week of university. However, UM first-year mathematics courses do not review previously learned material (i.e., material learned in H.S.) and move through new content quickly.
Recognizing those challenges, the mathematics department developed a 50-question Mathematics Diagnostic Test that covers all the material students need to know before starting class in order to be successful in their first year of university mathematics. Students who take the test and discover that there are areas that need review can take MATH 0500, a noncredit course, taught over 5 weeks on Saturdays, and/or purchase Preparing for University Mathematics sold at the UM Bookstore. These additional supports can potentially transform a frustrating experience into a successful one.
The Math Diagnostic test is offered via ANGEL Learning. If you are interested in taking the test, you can ask a U1 advisor about obtaining a user id and password.
