This "Sample Research Paper Timeline"Flash handout discusses the last element in task analysis:creating a sample research paper timeline. This document will help you to set target dates for completing the steps in writing essays and help you to monitor progress. Any discrepancy between the target date and completion dates informs your planning for future essays.

What will I be able to do after reading this?
  • Divide your paper writing process into manageable chunks.
  • Celebrate meeting target dates and gain confidence.
When will I use it?
  • Before beginning the writing process so you give yourself ample time to complete each step.
  • After writing to evaluate your writing process.
How should I use it?
  • Print it out and set target dates and record the dates tasks are actually completed.
  • Reward yourself when you meet the target goals.
  • Note to yourself which stages are easier for you and which are more challenging.
  • Use this handout to develop a system for keeping track of your research
Why should I use it?
  • To allow sufficient time for all stages of the writing process and measure how long certain stages take. We are all different and each task often requires a modified approach, but knowing your strengths can be helpful.
