Graphic organizers are excellent tools to organize complex information so you can understand it. Graphic organizers also let you manipulate information which helps you understand the ideas more deeply and store them in your long-term memory.

This reference contains three graphic organizers:

What will I be able to do after reading these?
  • Understand better the complex material in your lecture notes, research notes or course reading.
  • Tap into your visual learning abilities to understand course material.
  • Remember course material more easily.
When will I use it?
  • Use the Sequence Chart PDF when you are having difficulty remembering the steps in a procedure like chemistry, physics, math, or even the important events in a historical context.
  • Use the Compare/Contrast PDF organizer when you are having trouble distinguishing between similar theories or organs, anything that you tend to confuse or have trouble remembering the differences or similarities.
  • Use the Topical Paragraph Note Taking Grid PDF for texts that either contain really complex material or if the material has been presented in language that is difficult to understand.
How should I use it?
  • Print a graphic organizer that suits your specific purposes.
  • Fill in the requested information using your own words and expressions.
