Document Delivery

Can I Borrow Books or Articles From Other Libraries?

If you hear about a book, journal article, or other item that the University of Manitoba Libraries does not own, it can be obtained through a service called Document Delivery. Through Document Delivery Services, the University of Manitoba Libraries will borrow requested items from a nearby library on your behalf.

Steps for Using Document Delivery:

  1. First, contact a librarian and ask them to help you search the University of Manitoba Libraries Online Catalogue, BISON, for the book.
You cannot request Document Delivery of anything the University of Manitoba Libraries already owns.
  2. Document Delivery uses a separate online system from the rest of the library. You must register with the Document Delivery System before you are able to use Document Delivery.

Your ID is usually your student ID number, and your password is usually the last four digits on your student ID number, by default.

If you have forgotten your ID or password, contact Document Delivery.
  3. Go to the Document Delivery Website. You can link to this site from the left menu of the Libraries' Main Page.
  4. Select the Patron Request Form. Fill out the form as described in the steps below.
    • Select a library where you would like to pick up the document.
    • Fill in the form with your ID and password. Remember that your Document Delivery ID and password may be different from other systems.
You will receive your ID and password when you register with Document Delivery. Your ID is usually your student ID number and your password is usually the last four digits on your student ID number, by default.
If you have forgotten your ID or password, contact Document Delivery.
    • Once you sign in, you will be directed to a form to describe the book or article that you would like to request. Be as specific as possible. Fill in the information and submit the form. You will receive a confirmation number.
