Reserves and E-Reserves

How Do I Find Reserves and E-Reserves?

Reserves and E-Reserves are available from the left-hand menu on the University of Manitoba Libraries Website.

What Are Reserves?

Your instructor may ask you to consult books, articles, or films that are on reserve. When something is placed on reserve it means that your instructor has asked the University of Manitoba Libraries to place the books or other library materials aside for students to access. Some reserve materials are located online (called Electronic Reserves or E-reserve), while others are on hold behind the circulation desk.

Search Reserve Materials to find hard-copy reserves, such as books and paper copies of articles.

  1. You can search by either the course number or your instructor's name (last name first).
  2. Once you find the correct record, click on Full Record Information.
  3. You will need to note:
    • What library it is in,
    • The call number (a series of numbers and letters at the bottom right corner of the record).
  4. When you come to pick up the material, you must have your student ID card and the call number of the material with you. You will only be able to use the material for a limited amount of time.

Electronic Reserves, or E-Reserves

E-Reserves are a part of the E-Library materials.

Go to the Electronic Reserves or E-Reserves website by clicking on the button below:

  1. Search for the E-reserves you want to access by the instructor’s name, the course number, or the title and author of the material you want to access.
  2. Read the copyright restrictions and click on the Accept button.
  3. Double click the document you want. You may need to have certain programs on the computer you are using, such as Adobe Acrobat (for .pdf files).
Sometimes E-reserves require a password. Your instructor should provide you with the password. Library staff do not have access to E-reserve passwords for individual classes.
