Goal Setting

This "Goal Setting"Flash handout provides criteria for setting goals. The acronym STAR (specific, testable, achievable and relevant) will help you remember the criteria.

What will I be able to do after reading this handout?
  • Create goals that are useful and doable.
  • Check my goals to ensure that all components of the STAR method are used.
When might I use this handout?
  • When I want to create new goals.
  • When I am not sure whether I am meeting my goals.
  • When I am not motivated by the goals I create.

  • As a guide to creating and modifying goals.
  • To check if my goals are useful and doable.
Why should I use this handout?
  • To create goals that are realistic and attainable.
  • To help me evaluate my goals and determine if they are relevant.
  • To make sure my daily actions contribute to who I want to become.
